My story

Welcome to my site. Here at giasbeautyandwellness.com I’ll be covering and talking much about health in general. When you have good health, then beauty from the inside out follows. Wellness does too. So stay tuned and hope you will find my articles helpful as it is to me. I put up this website because I am inspired to make a change in every aspect of my life. Getting sick is not an option because I have a toddler who’s looking up on me every day. So let’s get started.

It all started when…

It all started about 6 months ago. I had mild to chronic pain on my lower right back. A typical me just ignored it for a month or so thinking it’s just a normal muscle spasm caused by my work (I work in a nursing home). I did my own diagnoses and my own DIY pain reliever doing hot compress every night. It’s been a month and the pain is not getting any better. Yes, I have waited that long! Typical me! Then after persuasion from my husband and some worry thoughts I went to the doctor and I was told that it is a usual muscle related pain. Well, she gave me two types of pain reliever that I can take on intervals. I was also advised to continue hot compress at home. So, that’s what I did.

I was on night duty that time then suddenly I feel the pain again but this time it radiates on my groin. I knew by that time that there is something wrong. I knew by instinct that it’s not just a usual muscle spasm. I called my doctor’s office the next day and booked an appointment right away.

During the consultation my doctor decided that I will undergo MRI (Magnetic resonance Imaging). She then referred me to another clinic who will be conducting the said imaging test. I waited for a month for my appointment (yes, it took that long). Fast forward, my doctor scheduled an appointment after receiving the result. She then informed me that basing from the MRI result I have a herniated lumbar disc. I was like, really? How bad is it? Do I need operation? What are we going to do? Well thank God it is not in operative stage. I was advised then to see a physical therapist, do some back strengthening exercise and avoid lifting heavy objects.

My reason behind

I made this website to reach out to people, young or old, men or women that health is everything. It is EVERTYTHING, yes that’s in capital letters. I want to share my story. This is because of my daughter who inspire me every day to be the best I can be. That is why I named this website after her. I want to write and share articles and or products that helped me get through my ordeal. Having a herniated lumbar disc did not stop me to go to the gym. It is indeed the one that pushes me to sign up at the training center otherwise I would still be on my couch during my free time. Well, not anymore!

I want to let people know that achieving a good health is never too late. Get up now and do something about it. As the old proverb say that the worst exercise is the exercise undone. So look around and get inspiration from people around you. From your family, from your friends or from anybody that you admire the most. As for me, my lovely daughter inspired me the most. Why? Because I want to play with her, I want to be pain free while running after her. I want to do things for her and with her especially in the future. I want to be the healthy mother for her. If I can, you can too. No more excuses.

THE GOAL OF YOUR SITE

My goal would be to spread beauty and health awareness (that is very much obvious on my domain name). I want to share everything about health. Let me quote it from the old proverbs that “health is wealth”. It is my goal to share with you holistic approach from inside to outside or vice versa. So be prepared to read more helpful articles on this site and subscribe so as not to miss a thing.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Gillian

  2. Hi! I absolutely agree with you about health. I started going to a martial arts school 7 years ago and put myself in the best shape I was ever in. After having a baby 15 months ago, I lost a lot of it. My motivation for getting in shape is a mix of keeping up with my little girl and remembering how much better I felt being in great shape. Nothing compares!

    Still working on it!

Am sorry to hear about your condition. Hope you will get well very soon. It is really important to get checked by a doctor when something doesn’t feel right, rather than waiting for it to get worst. I am looking forward to reading your upcoming articles that I hope will apply in my day to day activities. Been thinking of going to the gym myself but got to sort out my baby’s childcare. Just like you, I have an 11 month old daughter so I should take better care of myself so I could raise my child well.

It is so nice to “meet you”. When I came across your site I thought it was perfect for what I’m looking for.

Wellness and health is something that so many people take for granted in today’s age. But, the important thing, is that it’s never too late to learn.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and great to meet you.

Hello Russell, you said it right, health is something we ignore often until we get to the point of feeling something’s wrong here and there then that is the time we think on doing something right. I hope to reach more people and inspire more to stay healthy and fit.

      Kind regards,

Go PROACTIVE women. i love the fact that you are doing things for the right reason and not for vanity alone. and yes HEALTH IS WEALTH that we have to put an effort on. i want to commend you for being that kind of a mother who takes care of herself to make sure that she’d be around her family’s activities 100%. it is not being SELFISH if you decide to take care of yourself- as you have to love and care for your self first before you can care and love others. hope that everyone can find inspiration from your story and more power.

    1. admin says:

Thank you and welcome Nikki. I do agree with you. We need to be healthy and fit in order to take good care of the people we love. So let’s stay healthy!

  14. Dear Gillian,
I’m so sorry you’ve had to endure pain for so long. I know how hard it is to function well with loved ones when we’re hurting. Your daughter deserves a pain-free momma. Thank you for putting yourself out into the internet world for us to learn from you. I’m glad people like you are willing to help people like me, a complete stranger. I’ll be reading your other articles to learn all I can from you.

Here’s a question: would you please define, and maybe explain, what you mean by “holistic approach”?
    Laura

    1. admin says:

Hi Laura, welcome I’ll be whole heartedly willing to share my experiences and so far I’m on the road to recovery. Thanks to my PT who have made a treatment program for me. What I ment by holistic approach is that getting well through food, proper diet, exercise, stress free and the like. Not just targeting one part of your body, but understand the body as a whole. So I will be sharing more of it on my coming post. Stay tuned.

      Kind regards,
      Gillian
